Books and More Books
Tuesday, July 8, 2008 at 09:39AM I read a lot of books, it's my escape in the evenings outside of the internet. I generally read books on Sociology or Psychology, and often times Print Design Techniques. Those can be kind of boring because they are mostly text books. So I decided to share some random (some not so random) books that have been helpful or fun to read.
Helpful Books
Left: "Growing Beyond Survival" - Elisabeth VermilyaThis is the handy workbook of all the symptom management techniques that I learned at Sheppard Pratt Trauma Disorders Unit and most of what I'll cover here. It's through the SIDRAN press (also located in Baltimore) and I believe amazon.com has it as well.
Right: Dissociative Identity Sourcebook -Deborah Bray Haddock
I didn't find this all that useful for myself, but it can be very helpful for a loved one of someone with DID.
Just Interesting
These are books that I could relate to and ended up liking.Left: 'Sickened" - Julie Gregory
About a girl that grows up with a narcissistic mother that also has Munchhausen By Proxy. Since it was something I went through and not often talked about I found great comfort in this book.
Center: 'Bad Girl' -Abigail Vona
About a young teen that is sent to a Rehab Facility in Tennessee. Also something I went through but have never talked about, so also for me, it was helpful.
Right: 'The Butterfly Garden" -Chip St. Clair
Perspective of a male that went through childhood abuse. Very descriptive and can be triggering, but interesting and insightful.
For Child Alters, or For the Kid in You
Left: 'Sometimes I like to Curl up in a Ball" - Vicki ChurchillJust a feel good and funny book and if you enjoy wombats as much as I do, this will be perfect.
Left center: 'Goodnight Moon' - Margaret Brown
It's as classic and ultra soothing. The little boy I nanny-ed was obsessed (still is)
Right Center: 'No Matter What'
My therapist recommended this one, talks about loving someone no matter what mood they are in.
Right: 'Osbert"
Given to me by my best friend (as she knows I LOVE penguins), it's a quirky and sarcastic story about a boy wanting a penguin for Christmas, however when he has this penguin it is not quite what it seemed. Adorable.
So what are you reading? Or what have you read that you enjoy??? I'll post a list on my right hand navigation.
